Focus on Research: Finding News as It Happened on Chronicling America: Historic American newspapers In-Person
Learn how to access over 12.5 million pages of historic newspapers on the Library of Congress’s free newspaper database Chronicling America, a digital collection with content from 47 U.S. states and territories covering 1789-1949. Jenni Salamon, Coordinator for the Ohio Digital Newspaper Program at the Ohio History Connection, will demonstrate basic and advanced search strategies and how to work with your results to find information about local, state, national and international events, people, places and culture. A brief overview of the newspaper digitization process will also be provided.
Jenni Salamon is the Coordinator for the Ohio Digital Newspaper Program at the Ohio History Connection where she manages their newspaper digitization and microfilming projects, including the National Digital Newspaper Program in Ohio. She has been with the Ohio History Connection since 2009, and has a BA in English from Ohio University (2008) and an MLIS from Kent State University. Her areas of expertise include newspaper digitization as well as traditional and digital newspaper research on various topics. When not thinking about newspapers, she can be found reading, crafting or spending time with her adorable dachshund.
