Creative Commons In-Person

Creative Commons copyright licenses and tools forge a balance inside the traditional “all rights reserved” setting that copyright law creates. They give everyone from individual creators to large companies and institutions a simple, standardized way to grant copyright permissions to their creative work. Bryan McGeary, Subject Librarian for the Humanities will help participants build understanding of the various creative common licenses, why you should use them and apply them to your own work.

This workshop is part of the Libraries' Alt-Textbooks Initiative, in which the Libraries seek to support the adoption of free or low-cost textbook alternatives. Participants in the Spring 2016 pilot of the initiative redesigned their courses and materials to help students in 23 different courses save $236,213 during the 2016-2017 academic year. Faculty interested in learning more about textbook alternatives can apply to join the Spring 2017 cohort and earn $250 for full attendance at the workshop series' six sessions and for committing to reducing the cost of course materials for students in at least one of their classes.
