Social Media for Research, Teaching & Writing In-Person

If you have ever wanted to integrate social media into your work or study, join us for this workshop. We’re welcoming Nick Hirshon (@nickhirshon), Dr. Alexa Fox (@AlexaKaye3) and Dr. Jennifer Fredette (@ProfFredette) to discuss the ways in which they use social media as part of their research, teaching and writing processes.

Dr. Fredette, Assistant Professor of Political Science in the College of Arts & Sciences, will be discussing the ups and downs of writing for a wider public audience on-line. What can researchers gain by doing this, and what are the pitfalls they should be aware of?

Hirshon, a teaching fellow at the Scripps School of Journalism and a former reporter for the New York Daily News will share how he has used Twitter to conduct research on recent history. Hirshon used Twitter in researching his dissertation on the New York Islanders' 1995 rebranding effort. He will discuss this process more at the workshop.

Dr. Fox, Assistant Professor of Marketing in Ohio University's College of Business, will share her experiences integrating a course-specific hashtag and Tweet Chats as class activities and as a means of communicating with students beyond the bounds of the classroom.

If you can't join us for the workshop, be sure to follow @AldenLibrary , where we'll share recommendations from the speakers and take questions.
